A Roman, life-size sculpted marble head of a woman, possibly a goddess, dating from the 1st to 2nd Century AD. The subject is beautifully sculpted as a Stoic, with her haunting, hollow stare and vapid expression. This rare piece of Classical antiquity is remarkably near-complete and sits upon a marble base.
Provenance: Private collection, Los Angeles, since the mid 1970’s Acquired from Brimo de Laroussilhe, France (retains original shipping label on the bottom of the base)
The head itself measures approximately 11.5” high, but overall size with the marble base is 17” high.
